Our goal at Lake Nona Eye Care is to help the people of our community have their best vision, at every stage of life. We are excited to announce the recent opening our new office in the Eagle Creek Publix shopping center.

When it comes to pop culture, 40 is the “new 20”, but 40 is still the time most people start noticing changes in their vision.

In fact, it is becoming quite common for people in the late 30s to need reading glasses. It’s called farsightedness or presbyopia, when the muscles in the eye begin to weaken and lose the elasticity in the crystalline lens in the eye. Making things at close range difficult to focus on.

It may start out as squinting to read a menu at a restaurant or headaches after spending most of the day on the computer.

Though reading glasses may seem like an easy fix, it is important to meet with us so we can determine what kind of changes are taking place in your eyes.

Regular Eye Exams are Key to Healthy Eyes

Health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and other medical situations can play a big factor and can even lead to vision loss. Since many eye conditions are treatable, it is important to detect any problems early before the cause irreversible damage.

Other Conditions Affecting Vision Include

A family history of macular degeneration or glaucoma
A job that is very visually demanding or occupation that has eye hazards
Medication for health conditions related to depression, anxiety, arthritis, thyroid problems, and high cholesterol. Even antihistamines can have an effect on vision.

“During these years (41-60), schedule a comprehensive eye examination with your optometrist at least every two years to check for developing eye and vision problems. Don’t rely on the limited driver’s license vision test or other insufficient vision screenings to determine if you have an eye or vision problem.”American Eye Association.
