We use our vision for just about everything. Though we may not think about taking care of our eyes until we have problems with our vision, it is important to be vigilant about the health of our eyes.

Important Eye Care Facts Everyone Should Know

Overnight contact lenses can cause issues

Though contact lenses say they are save to wear overnight, you may want to think twice. The cornea gets most of its much needed oxygen from the air. When you wear contact lenses, there is a limited supply of oxygen getting to the cornea, but when you sleep with your contact lenses, oxygen is not able to go through the eyelid and the contact lens. If this occurs for a prolonged time it can leave your cornea starving for oxygen. Which can lead to corneal ulcers and eye infections.

Eye strain from computer vision syndrome

In an age where we look at the computer screen or smart phone for a good part of the day, it can take a toll on our eyes. Studies show CVS affects almost 90% of office workers, it can cause the muscles in your eyes to strain, which can lead to vision problems, headaches, shoulder and neck pain. Expert suggests,  every 20 minutes we spend looking at the computer, spend 20 seconds looking at something at least 20 feet away.

Debris from make-up can injure eyes

Be careful when applying make-up.  Pumping up your lashes, contouring your eyes with eyeliner, and even face powder can cause eye issues when it gets trapped in the outer layer of the eye.

Eyesight isn’t weakened by your glasses

Though it may feel like you become more and more dependent on your glasses, it isn’t because of your glasses. Vision changes happen as we age, glasses only help us see better.
