Since it is the biggest complaint concerning computer use, it is worth taking a closer look into the issues. So many of us need a computer for work, how it is impacting our health?

The most common issue is fatigue, but other effects of prolonged computer use includes:

Headaches and blurred vision
Eye irritation and tearing

What can you do about digital eye strain

Eye strain may be affecting you more than you think. Impacting your productivity and overall well being. A comprehensive eye exam can detect an underlying cause. Just a minor vision issue is usually a main contributing factor for digital eye strain. It affects both the performance and comfort, leading to other physical issues.

“Uncorrected vision problems like farsightedness and astigmatism, inadequate eye focusing or eye coordination abilities, and aging changes of the eyes, such as presbyopia, can all contribute to the development of visual symptoms when using a computer or digital screen device,” according to the American Optometric Association.

Angle your computer screen as to void any glare, this will reduce any squinting.

Check the position of your computer, it should be slightly angled up and just below eye level to reduce eye strain. The screen should be at least 20 inches away from your eyes.

Give your eyes a break by taking 20 seconds to look at something that is at least 20 feet away, every 20 minutes you spend on the computer. It may not sound like much, but it can go along way in the health of your eyes. Specialized computer glasses can also help.
