Why are eye exams so important? Because vision is an integral part of our health. So, ask yourself these questions, When was your last eye exam? How often should you have your vision checked? How do I know it’s time to get an eye exam?

Like just about everything else, you may experience signs or symptoms, letting you know it is time to visit the Optometrist. Here are a few to be aware of:

Digital Eye Strain

All of us are spending more and more time in front of a computer screen, from young children to adults. Making us susceptible to Computer Vision syndrome. Symptoms include headaches, blurry vision, and eye strain.

If you spend an extended period of time on the computer, try making the room light dimmer than the computer monitor. You should also sit about 20 inches away from the computer monitor. This will help relieve some of the pressure and strain from your eyes.

Another reason why this may happen, you may need prescription glasses or contact lenses. To limit the exposure to blue light, many people are finding blue light glasses help.

Sensitivity To Light

A vision concern is being sensitive to light. It is definitely an indication you need to see an optometrist. If your eyes hurt or ache after being in a brightly lit area or outside, it may indicate a concern that needs further investigation.

There are a variety of tests the optometrist will perform. Such as a pupil test, which monitors how your eyes react to light.

A Change In Your Vision

Our eyesight changes over time. If you find yourself squinting to read or see far away, you need an exam. If your contact lenses or prescription glasses are working as well as you would like, it is time. The Optometrist will perform several tests to ensure your vision is working like it should.

When Was Your Last Eye Exam?

Adults should continue to have their eyes examined annually to keep prescriptions current and check for early signs of various eye diseases and issues. Since vision is linked so closely to the learning process, children should also have their vision checked annually. They don’t always know what good vision looks like. If any eye conditions run in the family, you should take extra precaution.
